The Best Luxury Hotels in Seminyak (2026)
Seminyak is one of the most fun places to stay in Bali, with beach clubs, restaurants, bars and boutiques you can walk to from your hotel. My top pick is Alila Seminyak. Book a suite and you’re right on the beach, with dinner a short walk away. The rest of my picks are below.
The waves here are strong, so the beach isn’t as kid-friendly as Nusa Dua’s calm water. If you swim, stay between the red and yellow flags where the lifeguards are. But it’s one of the best spots in Bali to watch the sunset.
The drive from the airport takes about 30 minutes, or up to an hour in heavy traffic.
Seminyak splits into three parts, and where you stay decides how far you walk to dinner.
- Petitenget. The north end, with the beach clubs and the restaurants on Jalan Petitenget. Alila, the W and Potato Head are here, and it’s where I’d stay.
- Central Seminyak. The Samaya and The Legian, on the beach, with Eat Street and Seminyak Square a short walk inland.
- Double Six. The south end. Hotel Indigo is on the beach, and the Courtyard is a 5 to 10 minute walk back from it. The beach clubs are a ride away.
Alila Seminyak
If I could book one luxury hotel in Seminyak, it’s a suite at Alila. It’s my top pick in my Hyatt ranking too.
The suites are where it shines. A ground level Terrace Suite opens straight onto the adults-only Serene Pool, and that’s the one I’d book as a couple. Every suite fits a family of four comfortably.
There are several infinity pools facing the sunset, and the one on the beachfront has a bar right in the pool. The Play Alila kids club runs daily from 8 am to 5 pm, for kids up to 12. Seasalt, on the sand, is where I’d eat.
The catch: the standard rooms are fine, but they don’t have the wow factor of the suites, and they only fit two adults. If you can stretch to a suite, do.
It’s 5-star, and it lives up to it. The location is hard to beat too: it’s right on the beach at Petitenget, with the restaurants, bars and boutiques of Jalan Petitenget a short walk away.
Book it if you're a couple or a family who'll book a suite and want to walk to dinner.
Skip it if you're a family of four and the budget won't stretch to a suite.
The Legian Seminyak, Bali
The Legian is old but gold. The design is classic Balinese and understated, the service is solid, and it feels more refined than most hotels in Seminyak. Every room is a suite facing the sea, and it holds a Michelin Key, in 2025 and again in 2026.
The pool’s the big drawcard, with three tiers of infinity edge stepping down towards the beach. I think it’s the best-looking pool in Seminyak. My favourite spot is the sun beds built into the wall above the beach. The food is excellent too, especially breakfast.
For extra privacy, The Club is a separate compound of villas, each with its own pool and a butler. Club guests also get free airport transfers. That’s what I’d book for a honeymoon.
It’s better with kids than its reputation suggests. There’s no kids club, but there’s a daily Kids Studio with morning and afternoon sessions, a playground and a kids menu. Babysitters can be booked a day ahead, for a fee.
The catch: the price. It’s the dearest hotel on this list, and the suites don’t have private pools. Only The Club villas and the three-bedroom Beach House do.
It’s a calm, grown-up hotel, so if you want somewhere modern and lively, I’d book the W instead.
Book it if you value privacy and polished service, and want a big suite on the beach with the best pool in Seminyak.
Skip it if you want somewhere livelier and newer, close to the bars and beach clubs.
W Bali – Seminyak
If you want your holiday to be fun, book the W. It’s the liveliest of the big hotels here, and I think it does everything around the room better than anyone in Seminyak. The W brand is built around music, fashion and design, so it feels nothing like a traditional hotel.
The restaurants are great, and I think it has the best breakfast in Seminyak. As of September 2026, Alunê has replaced Woobar on the beach. It’s the sunset spot, with music and private cabanas that come with their own jacuzzis.
The rooms are very spacious. Even the standard rooms are 64 square metres, and they take two adults and two kids. I’d book an ocean-facing room on level 4 or 5, which comes with a skylight in the bathroom.
For a splurge, book an Oasis villa. They’re very private, each with its own pool, and great for a honeymoon. The two-bedroom villa sleeps five. The WET pool sits at the centre of the hotel, stepping down towards the beach.
The catch: it’s loud. House music plays all day, even at the pool, and noise from Potato Head carries at night. If you want a quieter night, let the hotel team know before you arrive and ask for a room away from the noise.
There’s no kids club either, so it’s not really one for families with small kids. With teenagers, though, it’s amazing.
Book it if you're a couple or a group who want great food, a beach club and a big room.
Skip it if you want peace and quiet, or you've got small kids.
The Samaya Seminyak
This is where I’d go for my own pool on the beach. You get a villa you’ll talk about at home, and Seminyak’s restaurants are still a walk away.
Every room is a villa with its own pool and a butler. They’re huge, from 220 square metres for a one-bedroom up to 540 for three bedrooms.
I’d book a beachside villa: the Pool Villa, or the Royal Pavilion if you want an outdoor jacuzzi too. Afternoon tea is served every day from 3 to 5, facing the ocean, and the spa sits on the sea.
Breeze, the restaurant over the beach, is where people go for anniversaries and proposals. Go for the setting, though, as the food doesn’t always live up to it.
Kids are welcome, but there’s no kids club or kids’ pool, and the villa pools are about 1.4 metres deep. It suits couples, or families with older kids who can swim.
The catch: it’s priced about the same as The Legian, and for that money I’d pick The Legian for its service. If you do book The Samaya, make sure your villa is on the beach side.
Book it if it's a honeymoon or a big anniversary and you want your own pool on the beach.
Skip it if you've got young kids, or great service matters more to you than a private pool. For the same budget, book The Legian.
Courtyard by Marriott Bali Seminyak Resort
On a family budget in Seminyak, I’d start here. It costs a lot less than the beachfront hotels, it’s set up for kids, and the staff are lovely.
The lagoon pool is the highlight. Parents get a swim-up bar, and the little ones have their own kids’ pool.
The kids club runs from 8 am to 8 pm every day for ages 5 to 12, with crafts, a ball pit, Balinese dance and gaming. Younger kids can join with a parent, or you can book a hotel babysitter for an hourly fee.
It’s a good pick if someone in your group uses a wheelchair, too. There are ramps and lifts throughout, and accessible rooms. The pool itself isn’t accessible, but there’s a ramp down to the pool area.
The catch: it isn’t on the beach. It’s about a 5 to 10 minute walk to the sand. The kids club is fine, but there isn’t much organised, so a couple of hours at a time is plenty before kids get bored. The rooms are simple too, so ask for one facing the pool rather than the road.
Book it if you've got kids and want a big pool and a kids club.
Skip it if you want a beachfront hotel.
Hotel Indigo Bali Seminyak Beach
Hotel Indigo doesn’t get talked about like the W or The Legian, but for a family with older kids, I think it’s one of the better hotels in Seminyak.
It’s on the beach, with several pools, including an adults-only one for when you need a break, and pool villas if you want your own. The daily activities have plenty for kids, like pool games, art classes, cupcake decorating and pizza making, and the breakfast spread is a big hit with families.
The catch: there’s no kids club, so it’s not one for under-5s. Breakfast gets crowded, and the walls let in hallway noise. I’d ask for an upper floor, as some ground-floor rooms can feel damp.
Book it if you want to be on the beach with kids old enough to skip a kids club.
Skip it if you need a drop-off kids club.
Desa Potato Head
For a group of mates, I’d start here.
Potato Head started out as just a beach club, but it’s now a whole village on the beach. There are two 5-star hotels, the beach club, seven restaurants, a spa, a gym and a huge pool running along the beachfront. It’s an open compound, though, so plenty of people walk in from outside for the beach club, bars and restaurants.
If you bring kids, there’s a playground, and Sweet Potato Kids runs a session every Sunday from 1 to 2 pm.
The catch: the crowds. It can get noisy, and the public areas get packed when the beach club is busy. Hotel guests do get their own area, away from the beach club crowds, and I’d ask for a garden-facing room in AM House, away from the music.
It’s expensive for the size of the rooms, I think. There are no private pool villas either, and no daily kids club. It’s a beach club with loud music, so I wouldn’t bring a baby here.
Book it if you're friends who want the beach club, great food and something on every night.
Skip it if you want a quiet pool, or you're travelling with a baby.
W Bali vs Alila Seminyak
Lots of people ask me for help choosing between these two, and the answer is simple! If you’re a couple who want a party vibe, with great food and bars, I’d book the W. If it’s a family holiday and you want somewhere calm and quiet, I’d book Alila.
- Rooms. The W wins on space. Its entry rooms are 64 square metres, and the two-queen rooms are listed for two adults and two kids. Alila’s entry rooms take two adults only, so I’d book a suite there. Both are showing their age a bit.
- Pools. Alila, for me. It has several pools facing the sunset, including the adults-only Serene Pool. The W has one big terraced pool with a DJ, and the sun beds are gone by late morning.
- Kids. Alila has the Play Alila kids club, for kids up to 12. The W has no kids club, though it does have a kids’ pool.
- Noise. The W is loud by design, with a DJ in the lobby and bass from the beach club until late. At Alila, some rooms get bass from the beach clubs next door, but it’s usually quiet by 10 pm.
- Food. The W has the bigger breakfast spread, but for seafood I’d eat at Alila’s Seasalt, right on the sand.
- Going out. Alila is a little closer to Eat Street and Seminyak Square. Both are a short walk from Potato Head and the restaurants on Jalan Petitenget.
My pick: Alila, for most people. It’s calmer, and it has the kids club and the adults-only pool. I’d switch to the W for a group of friends, or a couple who want a party and a big room and can sleep through a DJ.
Two more I considered
The Oberoi Beach Resort, Bali. Everything around the room is lovely: the big gardens on the beach, the service and the Kecak dance dinners in the stone amphitheatre. But it opened more than 40 years ago, and the rooms feel every year of it. I can’t recommend it at splurge prices until the rooms are renovated.
The Seminyak Beach Resort & Spa. I like the beach rooms, which open straight onto the sand, and the 45-metre infinity pool. But it’s not one for young kids. For a family, I’d book Hotel Indigo instead.
So, which one should you book?
- If I could only book one: Alila Seminyak, ideally in a suite.
- A honeymoon: The Legian, in The Club.
- Mates who want a scene: the W.
- A family: Alila, in a Deluxe Suite, or the Courtyard on a budget.
