Review: Andaz Bali
8.8/10
Excellent
Best Bali Hotels score
The Andaz is the most luxurious hotel in Sanur. It’s small and calm, laid out like a Balinese village, and it suits couples and families.
The rooms and the breakfast are the best in Sanur, and the Lagoon pool is a highlight. If I’m paying this much, I’m booking Lagoon Access so I can step straight into it.
- Rooms
The best rooms in Sanur. Big, beautifully finished and spotless.
- Service
Warm and personal, with the odd slow moment.
- Food
The best breakfast in Sanur, cooked to order.
- Kids
A good kids club with 2 free hours a day. No slides.
- Location
Central Sanur, but a public path sits between you and the sand.
- Pools
Pretty but small. The Lagoon pool is the one that counts.
- Value
It costs a lot more than the Hyatt Regency next door.
Things I loved
- The rooms. Even the entry rooms are 50 square metres plus a balcony. You get a free-standing bath, a walk-in wardrobe, a Nespresso machine and free minibar snacks, topped up daily.
- Lagoon Access. You step off your terrace into a pool only Lagoon Access guests can use. It’s the best room in Sanur.
- Breakfast. It’s cooked to order across the restaurants around the Village Square, from 6:30 to 11 am. I think it’s the best breakfast in Sanur.
- The calm. With 149 rooms and villas, it’s less than half the size of the Hyatt Regency, and you feel it.
- The little extras. Free bikes for the beach path, free sunrise yoga and the Kul-Kul parade for the kids at 6 pm every night.
What could be better
- No spa or gym of its own. You walk 5–10 minutes next door to the Hyatt Regency’s. Kids aren’t allowed in either. At this price, I’d want my own.
- The beach. A public path runs between the resort and the sand, and the sea is tidal. Swim at high tide, in reef shoes.
- The pools are small, and there’s no slide. Your kids don’t get the Hyatt Regency’s cave pool either.
- The kids club isn’t free all day. The first 2 hours a day are free, then you pay by the hour.
- The price. It costs a lot more than the Hyatt Regency next door.
Rooms
It opened in April 2021, and the rooms still look brand new. The sizes below include the balcony or terrace, and every room comes with a king or twins.
- Garden View Room: the entry room, 66 square metres, in the courtyard blocks.
- Pool View Room: the same room, over the Santhi pool, on floors 1 to 3.
- Deluxe Room: about 50 square metres plus a balcony, with a garden view and a bath. The king version is up stairs, with no lift.
- Ocean View Room: 76 square metres on the second floor, with a side-on view of the sea. There are only a couple of them.
- Lagoon Access Room: 76 square metres, with a terrace that opens straight onto a lagoon you share with a few other rooms. I wouldn’t book anything else.
- Andaz Suite: 102 square metres, with a living room, a sofa bed, a second bathroom and a walk-in wardrobe.
- Andaz Deluxe Suite: 125 square metres, with separate living and dining rooms and a daybed outside.
- Andaz Suite Lagoon Access: the 125-square-metre suite, opening onto the lagoon.
- Garden Pool Villas: 18 of them, 234 square metres, each with a plunge pool, a pantry and a sofa bed. Two can connect for a second bedroom.
- Two-Bedroom Beach Pool Villas: just four, each with a private pool and a kitchen. You cross the beach path to reach the sand, and people walking past can see in.
The standard rooms take two adults and two kids under 6. The suites and villas take two kids under 12.
There’s more than one lagoon. The two in the courtyards are quieter than the one off the main pool, so ask for those.
As a couple, I’d book a Lagoon Access Room, or a Garden Villa for your own pool.
For a family of four with kids under 6, a Lagoon Access Room works. With older kids, I’d book the Andaz Suite Lagoon Access, or an Andaz Suite connected to a Pool View twin room. A villa is huge, but it’s still one bedroom.
The ground-floor rooms facing the main pool are on show to everyone at the pool, so I’d go upstairs. With a pram, remember the upper floors are up stairs.
Pools and kids
There are three pools, plus the Lagoon pool and the villa pools.
- Liang: the main infinity pool by the beach, and the social one. Sunbeds go fast.
- Alit: a small, shallow kids pool tucked in the trees by the kids club.
- Santhi: the quiet pool, under a big shady tree.
The Kemu Mai kids club takes kids aged 4 to 12, from 9 am to 6 pm. There’s an art room, a music room, a PlayStation, a padded room for little ones and a playground. Teens aged 12 to 16 get their own programme.
The Sea Turtle Village, shared with the Hyatt Regency, is on the beach path. Kids love it.
If your kids want slides, book the Hyatt Regency instead.
Food
Most of the restaurants sit around the Village Square. There’s Wok Wok for Indonesian, Blue Oven for Mediterranean, Fire Fox for steak and a deli for coffee and ice cream.
Fire Fox runs Hansik Korean BBQ on the lawn from Wednesday to Sunday nights, with a new menu since June 2026. The Pocha Bar inside does Korean drinks and late-night food.
The Fisherman’s Club is on the sand. You pick your seafood from the tank and they grill it. It’s pricey, so I’d do it once.
Until 31 December 2026, the Andaz Twilight happy hour runs at the Fisherman’s Club from 5 to 7 pm, with a bonfire and s’mores on the beach.
There’s no fine dining. For a cheap night out, the Sindhu night market is about 1.3 km up the path.
Location
The Andaz sits in central Sanur, next door to the Hyatt Regency, with the 5 km beach path outside the gate. The airport is about 25 minutes away, 45 in traffic.
The main pool and the Fisherman’s Club sit by the beach, across the public path. How far you walk to the sand depends on your room. The Lagoon Access rooms near the Fisherman’s Club are closest.
Like all of Sanur, the sea is tidal. The reef keeps it calm, but at low tide it drains away, and there are sea urchins on the reef.
Overall
The Andaz has the best rooms in Sanur, and it’s the one I’d book for a special trip there. Book Lagoon Access, and don’t expect a spa, a slide or much of a beach.
Book it if you want the best room in Sanur, as a couple or a family, and you’ll pay for it. Skip it if you want a spa on site, a waterslide, or to spend much less next door.
Alternatives nearby
- Hyatt Regency Bali. Next door, at a much lower price. Smaller rooms, but a cave pool, a kids pool with a slide, the spa and a great club lounge.
- Maya Sanur Resort & Spa. Big rooms for mid-range money, with two double beds. The best pick for big families.
- Alila Seminyak. The other design-led Hyatt 5-star, on the beach in Seminyak. Pick it if you want sunsets and dinners on foot over Sanur’s calm.
