Review: The Westin Resort & Spa Ubud, Bali
8.3/10
Excellent
Best Bali Hotels score
The Westin is the only resort in Ubud that does a proper family holiday for mid-range money. You get a jungle-view infinity pool, a kids club beside the kids pool and big rooms.
It’s for families with kids aged about 4 to 12. The catch is that a standard room won’t fit a family of four, and the wrong room can be noisy.
- Kids
A kids club for ages 4 to 12 beside a kids pool, with a toddler pool attached and family activities every day.
- Service
Warm and properly set up for families.
- Value
Big rooms and a kids club for mid-range money, and kids stay free on the family offer.
- Pools
A lovely infinity pool over the jungle. But there’s only one main pool, and no slide.
- Rooms
Big rooms with balconies. Some face the road or the lift, and a few are showing wear.
- Food
A good breakfast spread and a wood-fired Mediterranean restaurant. Only two restaurants, and nowhere to walk to.
- Location
About 15 minutes’ drive from central Ubud, with nothing walkable.
Things I loved
- The pool. The infinity pool looks straight out over the jungle and the river valley, with a jacuzzi beside it. It’s the view you come to Ubud for, from a family resort.
- The kids set-up. The kids club is right beside the kids pool, which has a little waterfall and a toddler pool attached. You can sit by the water while they play.
- Something on every day. There’s family yoga, Balinese dance, making offerings, cooking classes, cycling and a tour of the bee hives and the hydroponic garden. Bikes are free.
- The rooms are big. Even the entry room is 49 square metres with a balcony. That’s bigger than the entry room at the Westin in Nusa Dua.
- The family offer. Until 31 December 2026, two kids up to 12 stay free, with an extra bed, breakfast for the family, a kids’ meal every day and a one-way airport transfer.
- The staff. They’re warm and good with kids, and they go out of their way to help.
What could be better
- Some rooms are noisy. Rooms facing the road, the lobby or the lift pick up traffic and motorbikes. Which side you’re on matters more than which floor.
- Not every room is in the same shape. A few feel worn and dusty for a hotel this new.
- It’s out of town. Central Ubud is about 15 minutes’ drive away and you can’t walk in. Don’t count on a shuttle. Plan on a driver or Grab.
- One main pool. It’s beautiful, but there’s no slide and no second big pool. In peak season, loungers go early.
- Only two restaurants. With nowhere to walk to, you’ll eat most meals at the hotel.
Rooms
There are about 120 rooms, suites and villas.
- Deluxe Garden View King: 49 square metres with a balcony and a king bed. It sleeps three with an extra bed. Ask for the garden side.
- Deluxe Twin Pool View: twin beds on floors 5 to 8, looking towards the pool. Good for two adults and one child.
- Suites: junior and executive suites, with a separate living room. Fine for three.
- Family Suite: two bedrooms, one with a king and one with twin beds, plus a living room. It sleeps four. This is the one I’d book for a family of four.
- One Bedroom Pool Villa: 244 square metres on the ground floor, with your own pool. It sleeps three. If you have toddlers, ask how the pool is fenced.
There are no swim-up rooms. If you want a pool at your door, it’s the villa.
For a family of four, I’d book the Family Suite. If it’s gone, ask for two connecting rooms, which you have to book direct with the hotel.
Pools and kids
The infinity pool is the centrepiece, looking out over the jungle. There’s a ledge below the infinity edge, so keep little ones away from it.
The kids pool sits next to the kids club, with a small waterfall and a toddler pool joined on. There’s no slide anywhere, so if your kids want a water-park day, this isn’t it.
The kids club is for ages 4 to 12, with a programme every day, from making offerings to cooking and family cycling.
Food
There are two restaurants and two bars. The all-day restaurant does breakfast plus Balinese and international dishes. Tall Trees does Mediterranean food from a wood-fired oven, and it’s the easy family dinner.
Breakfast is a big buffet with plenty of healthy options. It isn’t included on standard rates, so I’d book a rate with breakfast or the family offer.
There’s nowhere to walk to for dinner. For a night out, get a driver into Ubud.
Location
The Westin is in Singakerta, about 15 minutes’ drive south of central Ubud, among rice fields and forest. The Monkey Forest, rafting and the rice terraces are all an easy drive.
It’s about an hour from the airport, 90 minutes in traffic. That’s closer than most of the big Ubud resorts.
There’s no beach, so I’d do 3 or 4 nights here and finish on the coast.
Overall
The Westin is the family resort I’d book in Ubud. The jungle pool, the kids club and the big rooms cover what most families want, for mid-range money.
Just book the right room. A family of four needs the Family Suite, and everyone should ask for the quiet side.
Book it if you’ve got kids aged 4 to 12 and want a kids club and a jungle pool without paying splurge prices. Skip it if you want to walk to restaurants, or your kids want slides.

- Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan. It has a kids club and family villas too, closer to town.
- Adiwana Resort Jembawan. Right in central Ubud, so you can walk to dinner. It’s a smaller hotel, not a family resort.
- The Westin Resort Nusa Dua. The beach half of the trip, with a free kids club and the sand at the end of the lawn.
